Raleigh, NC - The National Road Calendar series made a stop this year in downtown Raleigh. Riders were scheduled to do 50 laps of the one-mile, eight-corner course. Torrential thunderstorms moved in and officials cut the race to 35 laps. Inland Construction had 4 riders in the field, which included Pro Mountain bikers Charlie Pendry and Charlie Storm, Elite Cyclocrosser, John Degele, and in his first ever-Pro race, Steve Sherman.
Riding in his first road event of 2006, Inland Construction’s Professional Mt biker, Charlie Pendry rode tough for 30 laps until being caught behind a crash took him off the back of the group at lap 30, at which point the field of 100 was now down to about 35 riders. With the speed and rain taking it’s toll on the field, Charlie Storm, who finished third here last year placed 14th in the race which had 25 riders remaining on the lead lap at the finish.

Previously:
Inland Construction-BTD riders represented the team and defended their home turf very well in the North Carolina Grand Prix Nov 19-20, a UCI-C2 event. Under the guidance of sponsor/team mechanic and Jedi Master of the cross pits, Frank Jones, the team had riders in five events. The Fuji/Shimano bikes and shoes and sweet rolling DT wheels allowed the team to dominate the fields and place at the top of all NC riders. For full report see the following:

Saturday saw the 50+ Elite Men's race break up early with Charlie Storm in the lead group, Charlie Pendry in the chase group and Rob Moran and John Degele in the remaining splintered chase groups. In a race where tactics were more significant then pure cross power, Storm battled the Fior d'Fruita team for a hard fought 7th. Pendry followed with a very impressive 11th then Moran in a close 24th and Degele in 27th. The team placed 3 riders in the top 25 money placings.
Sunday, in what could be described as a crit with 180 turns and barriers, once again had Storm and Pendry make the decisive move in the lead group. Moran just missed out on the winning move of 14 riders with a poor starting position and the screaming pace over the first lap. Storm pushed the race to its max while Pendry, with the strongest ride of the day, lost his chain, pitted, rode BACK to the top 15, pitted again and then after a bike change, still finished 30th. In a sprint finish, Storm nailed a podium 3rd while Moran rounded out the money with 18th and Degele 32nd.
The results bode well for the team at the National Championships with Storm, Moran and Degele all Masters riders as well as Elite and Pendry with Collegiate eligibility.
The Women's Elite Race had the team's superstar, Susan Wilson, race against women 10+ years younger and like her Elite/Masters men teammates, she reprented the team and state with a spectacular 10th Saturday, just behind the ex-junior National Champ. Sunday, Susan just missed the top 10 with a strong 11th place.
In the Master's 35+ race, manager Jimmy Bruner placed a solid and close 2nd both Saturday and again in a sprint finish Sunday. In Master's 45+ race, team sponsors Jim Edwards was 11th Saturday and then nailed the top 10 with 10th on Sunday. Chuck Meek rounded out the Master's racing with 20th Saturday and then 23rd Sunday.
Up and coming racer Daniel Rotroff finished an impressive 3rd Sunday in the Men's B race.
